How fear of death make us react differently even if we are under no immediate threat. An article studying how this effect is used in the USA, but the methods outlined for coercing people is universal and used internationally.

A bunch of papers from MIT studying different aspects of media, online societies and computer games. I haven’t read a single one, but they’re all on my to-read list: cms.mit.edu

In order of appearance:

1) Per peeking peevishly per prejudice the passing of playable time.
2) Last week Elliot won again. The guy to the left is the donor of half Elliots genes.
3) Me at my hottest. And hungoverest.
4) When other people talk about the importance of having an economical buffer, I’m not sure that we are on the same page.

Kawaii!!!!!!! and Aqua Teen Hunger Force not so kawaii

Insanely cute dancing robot thingy. Slightly reminiscent of a dancing coca-cola can that I had as a kid, but just so much nicer. And the video is just kawaii beyond belief. Read more here: www.beatbots.org

I listened to Dangerdooms album, and thought that I recognised a few samples. Checking it out on the trusted Wikipedia, I learned that much of it was themed around Aqua Teen Hunger Force, a semi-retarded cartoon series. Naturally, I decided to download the feature length movie that just came out, Aqua Teen Hunger Force colon movie film for dvd, and it proved to be a nonsensical piece of surrealistic something. I guess it might not be a perfect fit with you pallet, but I thought I’d show you the intro anyway:

If all anti-pirate copyright messages were like this, I wouldn’t object as much.

Avurt. It sounds like a yoghurt but is actually a “non-lethal” “self-defence” “weapon”. It shoots something that might make you vomit. And it’s available in pink. You have to check out their webpage – the infomercial video that autoplays when you get there is gold.

If you want to get me a present, get me one of these: www.avurt.com

And here is an example of a certain lack of finesse in a gaming commercial:

Who’s Your Baghdaddy?

The Nation has a long article containing inverviews with U.S soldiers that were stationed in Iraq. You want to read it: thenation.com

“As an American, you just put your hand up with your palm towards somebody and your fingers pointing to the sky,” said Sergeant Jefferies, who was responsible for supplying fixed checkpoints in Diyala twice a day. “That means stop to most Americans, and that’s a military hand signal that soldiers are taught that means stop. Closed fist, please freeze, but an open hand means stop. That’s a sign you make at a checkpoint. To an Iraqi person, that means, Hello, come here. So you can see the problem that develops real quick. So you get on a checkpoint, and the soldiers think they’re saying stop, stop, and the Iraqis think they’re saying come here, come here. And the soldiers start hollering, so they try to come there faster. So soldiers holler more, and pretty soon you’re shooting pregnant women.”

Never trust robots

It’s usually considered rather lame physically challenged to post just one youtube video in a post, but this is a bloody brilliant song. I’ve been playing it continuously the past two days. If only Andrew Thompson would offer a non-DRM version to buy online…
